My Kitchen Cabinet Cookbook

This is my handmade Cookbook.  The cabinet was a $1 unfinished wood piece from Michaels

 The recipes are typed on the back of each tag, then labeled.  When finished, there will be a recipe in each pocket. I made this for my Holiday recipes, and plan to make more for gifts.

Cameo and Muslin Keepsake Book

 My latest craft project is this covered book, made with inexpensive muslin, lace trim and an inexpensive resin cameo that I found on Ebay.

The inside has the same trim and a pocket on each side.

What to put in the pockets?  Maybe a vintage French label printed on muslin and some glassine envelopes, also with antique ephemera.

Another Baby Shoe Pincushion

I found another pair of unwanted baby shoes.  These were in really bad shape, with scruffs, stains and a torn tongue (is that the right name for it?).    This one also had a transformation into a Pincushion.     I really enjoy doing these and seeing the shoes get new life as functional items.  I added a few of my stick pins too.

Baby Shoe Pincushion

A few months ago I bought a set of vintage baby shoes at my Thrift Store.  They were dirty and scuffed, so no one wanted them.    I decided to give one a new life as a Pincushion.   I painted the shoe a mauve color.  Then I made a flowered pincushion and put it in the shoe.  Finally, I added a vintage-style timepiece charm, tiny peach roses and seam binding.

This was so much fun, I think I'll be on the lookout for other "unwanted" shoes.   There are many females in my family and I think they make useful gifts.

"Paris Nights" Mini Album

 I recently completed this "Paris Nights" mini album.   It has many pages with vintage Paris ads and ephemera.  There's lots of space for photos and journaling.

You can't have a French theme without Fleur De lis.   This fence page reminds me of the ironwork in New Orleans.

This paper had a few pages of vintage French ads!  I found one that says "Cafe-Concert."   I placed it on this banner cut-out, on top of a page with musical notes.

Another pocket page with French ads and ephemera.  I left some of the journeling tags in the pocket for this photo.

I was really happy with the way this page turned out.  Pin stripes with a French banner and a little journeling booklet. 

Cream colors, simple page, but elegant.

All of the pages of this album have pockets.  I removed the photo and journeling tags so you can see the contrast.

TREASURE BOOK, Take 2

I'm working on my second unfinished wood "Book." So far, I've painted it and placed Mariposa paper on top. Now I have to put the bookplate on. This is how the hidden drawer looks when pulled out. These are the easiest projects I've done and it's almost instant gratification! I love the results too.

Products used: (1) Unfinished wood book box from Hobby Lobby on sale $1.50. (2) Half sheet of DCWV "Mariposa" paper, (3) paint colors of amethyst and a dusty pink from Lowe's, and (4) Tim holtz ornate plate (working on it).

Hints: If you have a Hobby Lobby near you, wait for these items to go on sale.....they always do! Also, I found it cheaper and easier to buy a pint of paint from Lowe's than to get craft paints to cover these boxes.

" BOOK" KEEPSAKE BOX FOR MONICA

 I finally finished a wood "Book" keepsake box for my niece. I made this using one of the unfinished wood boxes from Hobby Lobby.  It's made to look like a book and it has a secret drawer that comes out from the binding part of the book.

I painted it a base mauve color and placed butterfly ephemera on the front.   The only part I had left to do was the most tricky....I had to make the personalized name plate. I typed my niece's name on buff cardstock. Then I used Glimmer Mist to give it color. I then used one coating of Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel (UTEE), to make it more durable.

This isn't the best of all photos.  I have another one on the right sidebar.  I truly enjoy making these!


HINTS:  (1)  Buy the boxes from Hobby Lobby when they're on sale.  (2) Do not paint on or near the part of the box where the drawer slides into the book part (I learned that the hard way!)
